Digital traces are playing an increasingly important role in investigating fraud, cybercrime, and other forms of crime. By leveraging open digital sources—commonly referred to as Open Source Intelligence (OSINT)—valuable data can be collected that is highly relevant to investigative inquiries.
In the OSINT Fundamentals training, you will acquire the skills needed to conduct structured and professional online investigations. You will learn how to independently locate information on the internet, critically evaluate it, and clearly report your findings.
Upon completing the training, you will receive a certificate of participation that confirms the skills you have acquired.
Training Content
Research Structure & Reporting Set up OSINT investigations in a methodical way and record findings in a structured manner for use in reports and case files.
Safe and Discreet Online Work (OPSEC) Recognize digital risks, understand online traces, and apply measures to conduct investigations securely and anonymously.
Smart Searching in Open Sources
Understand how search engines and platforms index information, and apply search strategies across diverse investigative contexts.
Browsers, Extensions, and Tools
Select the right browsers and tools for different investigative tasks, and configure and use them effectively.
Image Analysis and Visual Verification
Investigate images using reverse image search and critically assess results from different sources.
Technical Fundamentals
Identify and analyze online technical data such as IP addresses and domain names to trace origins and uncover connections.
Social Media Investigations (SOCMINT)
Find information on social networks, identify investigative opportunities, and carefully document profiles and content.
After completing the training, you will have:
- Insight into the role of the internet and digitalization within investigative and enforcement processes
- The ability to purposefully use tools for online research
- Basic knowledge of image analysis, domain analysis, and social media investigations
- An understanding of techniques to work anonymously and securely online.
